Be Kind

What you need to know about ports

For cancer patients, using their port regularly can help to reduce the likelihood of developing infections. By keeping the area around the port clean and dry, you're less likely to contract an infection. Additionally, by using a quality port designed specifically for use with chemotherapy or radiation therapy, you're preventing any accidental contact between these harsh substances and your skin.

Far too often, cancer patients experience leaks from their ports due to swelling or other factors. A leaking port can lead to serious complications such as sepsis (a life-threatening bloodstream infection). In order for this not to happen, be sure to select a suitable Port that fits your individual needs and is easy enough for you administer treatments without difficulty.

Cancer patients often rely on their port for supplemental oxygen and other medical supplies. Make sure that you are using your port properly by following the guidelines provided by your doctor. Additionally, make sure to keep it clean and free of infection. By doing so, you can minimize the risk of leak or infection.
